It has great texture and chew. You can't ruin it. Best of all, you can double the recipe if you have a 2-pound loaf bread machine. So it's as easy to make two loaves as one. Just keep an eye on it toward the end of the dough cycle and remove it if it's going to spill over, and flour a large surface area on which to put the dough. This is my adaptation of Millie's recipe. It specified 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour and 1/4 cup sugar. Millie didn't specify pan size so I chose 5 x 9 inches. I added the option of baking at 350 degrees F. Place in bread machine pan in order given: 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons hot water1/4 cup canola or other non-saturated oil3 1/4 to 3 1/2 cups all-purpose or bread flour (13 to 14 ounces)2 tablespoons granulated sugar 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon bread machine yeast Put through dough cycle; check that there is enough flour during first mix. When dough cycle is finished, put dough on floured surface. Let stand 15 minutes.Knead 3 or 4 times (dough will be puffy, not punched down). Gently shape and put into greased 5 x 9-inch loaf pan (grease top if you like). Let rise 40 minutes to 1 hour (more or less depending on room temperature).Bake in 350 to 375 degree F oven for 25 to 35 minutes.

Baby Kay's Bread PuddingSource: Baby Kay's Cajun Kitchen, Scottsdale and Phoenix, Arizona1 1/2 cups granulated sugar3/4 teaspoon cinnamon3/4 teaspoon nutmeg3 eggs3/4 cup coconut flakes3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract3/4 cup raisins3/4 cup chopped pecans5 tablespoons butter3 cups whole milk3/4 of 16-ounce loaf stale French bread, cut into crouton-size cubesMix together sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add eggs; whip together. Add vanilla extract. Stir in coconut flakes, raisins and chopped pecans. Melt butter over low heat. Add milk, heating just enough to scald. Add to sugar-egg-coconut mixture. Place in a 12 x 8-inch baking dish with the French bread cubes. Put into a cold oven; bake at 350 degrees F for one hour.Serves 8.

Is your fitness routine wilting in the sizzle of this long, hot summer? If you exercise outdoors, experts urge you to ease up and drink up, or your body will quickly become too hot to handle. "If you're running, jog. If you're jogging, walk. If you're walking, slow your pace," said Dr. Douglas Casa, director of Athletic Training Education at the University of Connecticut. "The intensity of the exercise is the biggest factor that drives your body temperature up, so do whatever you can do to decrease it," he added. Casa is CEO of the Korey Stringer Institute, a heat stroke prevention facility named for the Minnesota Vikings lineman who died from heat stroke in 2001. "People who are into a regular fitness routine are dedicated," he said. "They're not going to take the day off. So hydrate yourself properly, wear less clothing, exercise in the shade and try to avoid the hottest part of the day." Casa said to make sure you're drinking enough, check the color of your urine. "It should look more like lemonade than apple juice," he explained. Most people lead their lives partially dehydrated, according to Fabio Comana of the American Council on Exercise. And he affirms that it's not just the heat, it's the humidity. "Humidity has a huge role. As we sweat we bring liquid to the surface of our skin. If the air is saturated you sweat more but you're not cooling," he explained. Because an exercising adult can sweat two to three liters (3.2) an hour, he recommends drinking eight ounces (0.23 liters) every 15 minutes during a workout. "Hydrate before, during and after you exercise -- aggressively," he said. Comana said cramping, especially of the lower extremities, light-headedness, weakness, even a little paling of the skin, are all warning signs that your body is overheating. But most important is to know yourself. "If you've always run six miles, but six miles suddenly feels harder, it's because you're working harder," he said. Wear light-colored clothing and lose those layers. "Multiple layers form a blanket of warm air" he said. "Wear one layer that breathes well." Katy Bowman, director of the Restorative Exercise Institute in Ventura, California, says as you lose water in the heat, blood gets thicker, more like honey. "The more viscous the blood, the harder the heart has to pump it, which is very fatiguing and has no muscular health benefits," she explained. "Eat snacks to keep up energy. But pick something juicy. Avoid anything that requires your body to add water, like crackers, or exercise bars made of granola." And heed the weather report. "Pay attention to air quality and heat index guidelines, and follow them," she urges. "Exercising in these conditions will not improve your health, and can be very damaging." Paul Drewniak, the head of forecasting services of Weather Services International, says the heat wave now blanketing much of United States extends as far as western Russia. And it's not likely to let up anytime soon. "Global weather patterns show we are in a waning El Nino becoming La Nina," he said, referring to the warming and cooling of surface water of the Pacific Ocean that influences weather patterns. The heat is predicted to continue into the fall. Drewniak lives outside of a very hot Boston, Massachusetts. So how does the weatherman work out? "I've been doing it in the morning or at night. Parmi les grands projets culturels du Chef de l’Etat, le Monument de la Renaissance Africaine, érigé sur l’une des collines des Mamelles. Le Monument de la Renaissance africaine, haut de 50 mètres, est une imposante structure en bronze, érigée sur l’une des deux collines volcaniques qui surplombent Dakar offrant ainsi une vue panoramique sur la capitale sénégalaise. L’ouvrage est matérialisé par un homme portant sur son bras gauche un enfant et enveloppant de son bras droit une femme. Cette représentation symbolise l’Afrique qui se libère de toutes sortes de dominations pour entrer dans un nouveau monde. Réalisée par les Nord-Coréens, cette imposante statue est une idée de Son Excellence Maître Abdoulaye Wade, Président Abdoulaye Wade qui veut rendre à l’Africain sa véritable dignité. Parlant de cette infrastructure culturelle qui fait partie de ses grands projets culturels, Me Abdoulaye Wade Président de la République du Sénégal disait : « Si j’étais un sculpteur, je mettrais en place trois personnages, les bras ouverts dans un élan d’étreinte. Deux, sur une marche supérieure, l’Europe et les Etats-Unis sont plus rapprochés. Le troisième, l’Afrique, un peu éloigné, aux formes saisissantes de pureté et de force, tend aussi les mains... » Le Monument de la Renaissance Africaine symbolise donc la liberté, la fraternité humaine, le dialogue des cultures. Il annonce le retour de l’Afrique, une Afrique qui assume son passé, tout son passé et se tourne résolument vers l’avenir à la rencontre des peuples et cultures du monde. La cérémonie d’inauguration aura lieu le dimanche 04 avril 2010, en présence de plusieurs Chefs d’Etat et de gouvernement et de personnalités du monde, correspondant au 50ème Anniversaire de l’Indépendance de nombreux Etats africains. Le programme de la cérémonie prévoit une exposition sur les grandes figures du panafricanisme, des projections de films, la prestation de troupes des communautés africaines et de la Diaspora et un colloque international sur le thème de la Renaissance africaine. Une présentation de la pièce ‘’La Tragédie du Roi Christophe’’ du poète martiniquais Aimé Césaire (1913-2008) ainsi qu’un spectacle ‘’Sons et lumières’’ sont aussi au programme. Le site où est érigé le Monument de la Renaissance abrite également des salles d’exposition, de conférence, de projection de films, un musée. Tout autour, en contrebas, seront aménagés des boutiques, restaurants et un village artisanal. Cet ensemble d’infrastructures aura des retombées économiques et fera de cet endroit un pôle de développement du tourisme.
