This object featuring in this video is a mikoshi (神輿) portable shrine. Such shrines are used in Japan to escort a deity into the community for special events such as festivals. The mikoshi is carried on the shoulders of enthusiastic men and women. The man riding at the front leads the participants in chants and guides the procession. The women help keep the beat and energy up through vocalization and body movement. The shrine is made of solid wood and is quite heavy requiring much effort on the part of those who carry it. At the end of the festival the mikoshi will be carried back to the main shrine to return the deity home.\n\nThe Path of Wildness is easy to find\nThe course of a stream\nLeaves blown in the wind\nA beast's track through the brush\nAnd the direction of our first inclination\n\nThe Path of Wildness is an answer and response to a prescribed way of life which may leave some individuals with a sense that their living is little more than a series of pre-determined
